IIP TALKS | Jed Wilson | Structure & Syncopation
IIP Talks | Structure & Syncopation: Thelonious Monk as psychoanalyst | Jed Wilson
Structure & Syncopation: Thelonious Monk as Psychoanalyst
with Jed Wilson (USA) | psychoanalyst and member of the International Institute of Psychoanalysis (IIP).
Free online event via Zoom with simultaneous translation in English, Portuguese and French (Brazilian Sign Language available upon request)
What can we learn from jazz legend Thelonious Monk about the art of psychoanalysis? A singular improvisational voice and visionary composer, Monk was a playful and subversive master of musical form. In this talk, we will explore how his unique approach to musical structure might give psychoanalysts a new notion or two about how to relate to structure in the clinic. What if Monk was actually a brilliant analyst (and topologist!) after all?
Jed Wilson is a psychoanalyst and member of the International Institute of Psychoanalysis (IIP). An avid teacher, lecturer, and supervisor, his work on psychoanalytic theory is rooted especially in the late teaching of Lacan. He is in private practice in the United States.
IIP Talks is a series of free lectures promoted by the International Institute of Psychoanalysis, an invitation to any person interested in getting to know the professors and friends of the IIP's formations.
New classes open September 2026:
- Psychoanalytic formation: Foundations for a contemporary psychoanalysis
- Psychoanalytic formation: Technique(s) for a contemporary clinic
The event is an invitation to dive into relevant issues in the psychoanalytic field.
