This webinar brings together legal practitioners and scholars from across Sri Lanka, in an exchange of ideas and information, on ways to best represent the rights and interests of Sri Lanka workers in global fashion supply chains.
A recent study by Asia Floor Wage Alliance, titled 'Money Heist : Covid-19 Wage Theft in Garment Supply Chains', stated that garment workers in Sri Lanka suffered wage theft of least 9.42 million USD during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. This has raised important questions on the accountability of global fashion brands towards garment workers in their supply chains. It has also created conversations on the need to develop legal strategies and tools in garment production countries to address the unregulated governance gaps in global fashion supply chains, which allows for such wage theft to occur.
This webinar will discuss legislation, regulation, soft law, and other initiatives to promote human rights of Sri Lanka workers in fashion supply chains.
The event will be hosted on Zoom and live-streamed on AFWA's Youtube channel, where participants can contribute to the discussion and ask questions via chat.
