Event description
Trade Unions, Academics and Lawyers from Asia, Europe, and the USA discuss a 6-country rigorous regional study on Wage Theft

About this event

As the economic, human and labour rights impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic become global and pervasive, garment workers in global supply chains have been exposed to greater and more profound risks and are bearing the brunt of this crisis. This is likely to continue in the medium and long range without significant intervention.

In response to these challenges, join Asia Floor Wage Alliance (AFWA) for a two-part series- discussion.

July 7, 2021, Wednesday- 14:00 - 16:00 UTC

At the July 7th event, AFWA will release the most in-depth, rigorous regional study on wage theft in the garment sector during Covid-19. The study was conducted with our partner garment unions and surveyed more than 2000 workers across Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. It brings out national and regional perspectives on the massive wage theft suffered by garment workers due to global apparel brands’ practises during the pandemic.

July 14, 2021, Wednesday- 14:00 -16:00 UTC

The event on July 14th will feature legal or corporate accountability experts alongside Asian trade union leaders and labour lawyers to discuss new strategies – such as joint liability -- for holding global apparel brands’ responsible for wage theft.

How sessions run:
