Magill Symposium Organising Committee
The Magill Symposium honours the legacy of Sir Ivan Magill, an Irish-born British anaesthetist who pioneered modern anaesthesia. Following his service in the First World War, Magill revolutionised patient care by developing vital equipment and techniques, including the renowned Magill forceps and endotracheal intubation. His work not only advanced the medical field but also elevated the professional status of anaesthetists.
First established in 1991, the annual Magill Symposium is hosted in London by the Magill Department of Anaesthesia, Intensive Care Medicine and Pain Medicine at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Imperial College London. It serves as a leading forum for medical professionals and academics to discuss and debate the latest advancements in perioperative care, clinical research, and patient safety, continuing Sir Ivan Magill's commitment to innovation and excellence.
