The Parliament of New South Wales, located on Macquarie Street, is Australia’s first and oldest Parliament. It has two elected Houses: the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council.

The Parliament’s historic rooms were once part of the northern wing of the 1816 ‘Rum Hospital’. Many architects have contributed to the evolution of the Parliamentary precinct. Today, the old and new parts of the Parliament are linked by the Fountain Court, featuring a water sculpture by Robert Woodward. In 2024, an award- winning restoration and critical maintenance project was completed which restored the historic Rum Hospital and chambers.

The Parliament is open to the public on weekdays, 9am to 5pm, with free tours available. On sitting days, visitors are welcome to view proceedings from the public gallery. The Parliament regularly hosts events open to the public from panel discussions to family open days.
